Mike has 15 years of coaching and strength and conditioning experience. He was most recently the co-head coach for the San Diego State Track & Field Team while also serving as the team’s strength and conditioning coach. He is currently on the national staff for The International Pole Vault Summit where he has been a speaker and developmental coach for the last 14 years. He also worked as an assistant track coach at the University of Utah, Fresno State, and the University of Nebraska as well as Golden West High School.
Many of Mike’s athletes have excelled while working with him. At the 2008 USA Olympic Trials for Track & Field, Mike coached four athletes—three in the pole vault and one in the shot put. Mike is a NSCA certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and USA Weightlifting Level 1 Olympic Weightlifting Club Coach. He has a master's degree in Psychosocial Aspects of Sport from the University of Utah. He is also a Russian Kettlebell Certified Instructor (RKC).
Andy has been a chiropractor in Carlsbad since 2002. Prior to opening his office, Andy played football at Saddleback Community College, San Diego State and in France. Because of his specific first-hand knowledge of athletics and sport-specific training, his practice focuses on active rehabilitation. Together with Mike and Foundation Health & Performance, Andy aims to rehabilitate and treat individuals on their journey toward peak fitness/athletic performance.
Andy is a prominent figure in the community and is involved in a number of community acitvities such as Youth Sport Coaching, and working with the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad. He and his wife, Stacy, live in Carlsbad with their three children.
Dr. Mertz brings 24 years of experience in the field of Chiropractic. He has worked with thousands of patients and their families in helping them achieve optimal health. Sharing his wealth of knowledge with others is what Dr. Steve is most passionate about.
Dr. Mertz has taught seminars worldwide; Europe, Australia and Canada. He coached chiropractors on the latest techniques in postural spinal correction. He was an official chiropractor for the NBA referees association in Northern California. He and his partners were chosen to provide chiropractic care for Korean athletes in the 1988 Olympics. Dr. Mertz later opened up the first chiropractic office inside a 24 hour health club in the Silicon Valley.
Dr. Mertz is an avid golfer and enjoys life in Carlsbad with his wife and two daughters.
Sylvia has been practicing Occupational Therapy for over 10 years. She is a board certified hand therapist (CHT), and has been specializing in hand therapy for over 8 years. Sylvia graduated from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with minors in Spanish & Psychology. Sylvia has a passion for individuals to achieve functional use of their hands while treating them with compassion to be independent in life and sports.
Sylvia specializes in treating patients with traumatic hand and sports injuries including tendon and nerve repairs, fractures, amputations, cumulative trauma disorders, wound care, and static and dynamic splinting. She is a member of the American Society of Hand Therapists and the San Diego Hands Special Interest Group.
Brooke is an Agatsu Certified Kettlebell Instructor. She is also the Pole Vault coach for La Costa Canyon High School. She brings a wealth of knowledge to both our pole vault preseason program as well as our fitness clients. Brooke competed as a top ranked pole vaulter while at Fresno State and The University of Utah where she vaulted 13'5. She also has competed in many triathlons.
Brooke has two Master's degrees from the University of Utah and California State University, Northridge. She has a Bachelor's Degree from Fresno State. Brooke works as a Speech/Language Pathologist and also enjoys training people on the side.
Kailyn Anderson teaches our Kettlebell Strength & Tone Class. She is a San Diego native and has always enjoyed an active lifestyle. She played soccer competitively until she was 18. After leaving soccer continued to train in the gym and remained active through jogging, hiking, and kettlebell training. She is a certified kettlebell trainer through the International Kettlebell & Fitness Federation.
